What are some items you use every day that you just can’t live without? Which items just make your life so much easier? We all have
Today, I’m sharing my top beauty and health items I need in my life! I hope you find something that will also be useful in your own life. I’ve provided reviews or reasons why I love each item, so check out my list below!
My Top 7 Beauty and Health Products
This is an item I think every woman should carry in her purse! This cocoa butter stick has so many uses and it only costs about $2! Paragraph
This cocoa butter stick smells like chocolate and makes a great lip balm. If you have dry skin or cuticles, you can just rub it onto your skin to moisturize. It’s also great for small burns, rashes, or bug bites. Some women also swear by cocoa butter for stretch marks, especially from pregnancy. I haven’t tried it personally for stretch marks, but there’s no harm in testing it out!
This stick is great for travel because it’s not liquid. The texture is very smooth and glides on easily. Pure cocoa butter is solid at room temperature and can be harder to spread on the skin unless you warm it up. But this formula has other oils that make the texture much easier to work with.
2. Eye Drops: Refresh Preservative-Free Lubricant Eye Drops
Living in the dry desert climate that is Southern California, dry eye is a common problem out here. I always carry some eye drops with me to keep my eyes lubricated, especially since I got LASIK not too long ago. If you want to read about the pros and cons of LASIK plus my personal experience with it, click here to check out the post.
As an eye doctor, I recommend preservative-free eye drops because preservatives can irritate your eyes more if you are using drops every day. Basically, any drops you buy in a bottle (versus a single use vial like you see below) contain preservatives.
Hint: though the vial is supposed to be one-time use, there is no need to use it once and toss it out. You’d be wasting several drops! Instead, you can keep the vial for up to 24 hours. Just recap the vial with the top and you’ll get about 6 drops total out of one vial. Toss it out after one day.
I especially love this Mega-3 version because it helps to replenish all 3 layers of your tear film (including your oil layer). It is more soothing and longer lasting!
3. Facial Oils: Herbivore Lapis Balancing Facial Oil and Rosehip Seed Oil
Wait, before you oily-skinned gals scroll past this, let me tell you that facial oils have dramatically helped my dehydrated, oily, acne-prone skin. I used
The trick is to find a noncomedogenic oil that your skin tolerates. Besides my favorites below, jojoba oil and argan oil are also great choices for oily skin. You can either use the pure oil straight up or look for a facial oil with a combination of oils for your skin type. Your skin will thank you.
Herbivore Lapis Balancing Facial Oil– I am a huge fan of Herbivore’s all-natural products. They’re high quality and effective. I love this facial oil because it’s very soothing yet light on acne-prone, oily skin. It contains blue tansy, which has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties to calm redness and breakouts. Can’t say enough good things. If you’d like to read my detailed review about this product, check out my post here.
Organic Rosehip Seed Oil– This is really the best oil I’ve found that is great for anti-acne AND anti-aging! It’s also affordable as one bottle will last you a long time. It helps reduce age spots and acne
Hint: Oils can go rancid, so try to use them up within 6 months. If the smell changes, it’s probably time to throw it out. You can keep them a little longer if you store in the fridge.
4. Water Bottle: Takeya Actives Insulated Stainless Water Bottle
This is hands down the best water bottle I’ve ever purchased! I already have two of them, and I would gladly repurchase.
The high quality and affordable price point are a huge plus. I like that it’s made of BPA-free stainless steel, and the lid is insulated and leak proof. The spout opening is the perfect size for someone like me who dislikes wide mouth bottles. Also, the handle is convenient for transporting and folds down when you don’t need it. It keeps drinks hot for up to 12 hours and drinks cold for up to 24 hours.
You’re supposed to hand wash these, but I admit I’ve thrown them into the dishwasher a few times. Even then, it’s held up extremely well and I haven’t had a single leak after several months of use.
Did I mention it comes in a rainbow of pretty colors and multiple sizes from 18-64 ounces? You will have a hard time picking just one!
5. Lip Balm: Dior Lip Glow and Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask
These are my absolute favorite lip balms. I’m not a snob to cheaper alternatives, but I’m very prone to dry lips and I’ve tried dozens of lip balms over the years. These are just the best for me and work better than cheaper lip balms I’ve tried.
Dior Lip Glow– Yes, this is expensive, but it’s the most amazing lip balm I’ve ever tried. The formula clings to the lips and doesn’t slide off after a few hours even if I drink water. It’s not super sticky, either. There are also several gorgeous, sheer colors to choose from. This color changing lip balm “reacts to the unique chemistry of each person’s lips to give them a natural flush of custom color.” I love the Berry and Coral Glow colors. You can check out my review on Dior Lip Glow for more info!
Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask– If you need intensive moisture for chapped lips, this lip balm is amazing. It coats your lips and creates a leave on “mask” which stays on for hours. It’s marketed as an overnight treatment, but I use it during the day as a regular lip balm. I don’t find it too sticky, but if you do, just use it before bed and you’ll wake up to baby soft lips!
The vanilla-y scent smells and tastes amazing. I also love the lavender scented version too. It comes in clear and sheer colors which are really pretty. The only thing I don’t like is that it comes in a squeeze tube (no applicator), so you have to apply it with your finger. But it’s a small price to pay for this amazing lip balm! Plus, one tube will last you an extremely long time because the product is so concentrated!
Growing up in an Asian household, you learn that Tiger Balm is one of those products that every Asian granny has in her purse. And for a good reason!
I love Tiger Balm because it’s so useful. I love the natural, herbal ingredients, though some people may find the minty Vapo-Rub like scent to be very strong. Personally, I enjoy the scent.
Tiger Balm is wonderful for achy muscles, back pain, bug bites, itchy skin, and bruises or sprains. Just massage a little bit into your skin and feel the soothing cool. If you are giving your significant other a massage, try mixing a small dab into your massage oil or lotion to further relax the muscles!
I also rub a little bit on my temples for headaches or dizziness. If you suffer from motion sickness, nausea, or upset stomach, dab a little bit on your stomach for relief.
I also love Tiger Balm for cough and colds– you can use it just like
7. Low pH Facial Cleanser: CosRx Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser and Tree to Tub Soapberry for Face Cleanser
If you suffer from acne or have tight, dry skin, switch to a low pH face wash right now! The concept of low pH cleansers is more popular in Asian skincare, but it’s become easier to find options in Western skincare.
But first, why do you need a low pH facial cleanser? Basically, your skin’s natural pH is slightly lower, which maintains your skin’s acid mantle. This is a protective barrier that keeps moisture IN while keeping bacteria and pollutants OUT. Most face washes have a high pH that destroys your skin’s acid mantle, making your face more prone to acne and makes your skin tight and dry. This is a great article if you want to read more.
Now that you know why you need a low pH cleanser, here are my favorites!
CosRx Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser- CosRx is a Korean skincare brand that makes affordable products for clearer skin. This is a great option for an everyday face wash. The gel foams up easily and washes clean without any residue. It has BHAs to help clear clogged pores and tea tree oil to soothe acne. I would suggest this for oily skin types as dry skin types may find this a little bit on the dryer side.
Tree to Tub Soapberry for Face Cleanser- This low pH cleanser is really amazing. I highly recommend this for all skin types whether you have dry, sensitive or oily skin! This cleanser is sulfate free and made of organic, natural ingredients. It comes in lavender, peppermint, and unscented options.
I started using this cleanser shortly after getting LASIK. I needed something gentle but effective that I could use to remove my eye makeup without irritating my eyes. This cleanser was perfect! Not only is it gentle on the eyes, but it is effective in cleansing your face without any tight, dry feeling. In fact, my face felt pretty soft after using this cleanser.
I really recommend this if you have a hard time finding a face wash that doesn’t irritate your skin. It would probably be suitable for those prone to eczema or dermatitis.
